This weekend at Barber Motorsports was definitely up and down. On Friday, we had a really great practice session in the morning. Later that day for Q1, it wasn’t quite as great as we struggled with bike set up a lot. The team made some great changes to the bike overnight and we ended up having a much better Q2 where we qualified P9.
In the race, we were able to get a good start which is what we have struggled with a good bit all year and found myself in a battle for 7th with the 2018 Twins Cup Champion, Chris Parrish. It was really great to get to ride with Chris as he is a legend in motorcycle road racing here in the US. I was barely able to hold him off to secure 7th place on Saturday, and I was very confident going into Sunday. Unfortunately, luck didn’t end up being on our side on Sunday.
We went out for warmup in the morning and only made it about a lap before the bike went into limp mode and I had to pull into the pits. We figured that we had solved the problem before the race and we were already focusing on some suspension changes to help improve our results in Race 2. Sadly, as I was pulling out of the pits for the second race, my bike went into limp mode again and I was unable to start the race. To say I was devastated would be an understatement. I really felt that we had some good pace for Race 2 but unfortunately we will never know what could’ve been. Next on the schedule we head to Indianapolis Motor Speedway, an iconic track in motorcycle history and also a track I have yet to race at.
I am looking forward to continuing my progress where we left off at Barber and keep pushing for the podium!
